Emergency Medicine - Canberra Hospital

Rotation features

  • Term supervisor: specialist emergency physician or a senior clinician with appropriate experience in emergency medicine responsible for patient care
  • Continuous clinical supervision in the department at all times
  • Supervision of bedside procedural skills by direct observation
  • Supervision of medical emergency skills to ensure that trainees demonstrate satisfactory participation in a resuscitation team. This can occur in supervised exposure to critically ill patients or in a simulated setting
  • Supervision to ensure that trainees demonstrate the ability to identify urgent priorities in the assessment, referral and management of an undifferentiated acute patient

Emergency Medicine - Calvary Hospital

  • 24 hour emergency cover
  • Annually in excess of 48,000 patients managed
  • Exposure to wide range of procedures including basic and advanced life support, plaster cast application, suturing, intubation and many others
  • Daily unit tutorials

Emergency Medicine - Canberra Hospital

  • 24 hour emergency cover – supervision provided at all times by emergency medicine physicians. After hours supervision provided by registrars.
  • Management trauma centre in Canberra region
  • Annually 53,000 patients managed with admission rate of around 30%
  • In any one term up to 24 junior medical staff rostered to do emergency
  • Exposure to wide range of procedures including basic and advanced life support, plaster cast application, suturing, intubation and many others
  • Daily unit tutorials and daily teaching ward rounds
  • Extensive opportunities for involvement in research
  • Department has a paediatrician working full time in emergency to ensure all JMOs have support when assessing and managing paediatric patients
