Psychiatry - Calvary Hospital

Alcohol and Drug Services

  • Inpatient Detox Unit - 10 bed unit
  • Opportunity to participate in community based Drug & Alcohol services
  • Drug & Alcohol hospital liaison service
  • Opioid substitution (Methadone and Buprenorphine) treatment program

Mental Health

  • Department runs two units – one at Canberra Hospital and another at Calvary Hospital
  • Opportunity to be involved in the care of patients with mental health disorders in the outpatient setting and inpatient setting
  • Exposure to the Mental Health Act
  • Ability to participate in tribunal meetings
  • Involvement in the Crisis and Assessment Treatment Team which provides emergency assessment and management of patients in the community
  • Weekly journal clubs

Hospital in the Home (HITH)

  • Innovative unit is run by infectious diseases consultant
  • Unit provides hospital level care to patients living at home
  • Involves the care of both long stay inpatients being treated at home and day only patients who require regular infusions
  • Exposure to complex medical conditions including inflammatory bowel disease and vasculitides
  • Education by term supervisors in the management of adverse drug reactions
  • Extensive exposure to procedures including PICC line insertion, lumbar punctures and abdominal paracentesis
  • Weekly radiology meetings
  • Ability to attend weekly infectious diseases meetings
  • JMOs can organise to attend sexual health clinics if interested
