Member of the Order of Australia (AM) June 2010. Appointed as a Member for service to medicine, particularly as a practitioner and educator in the fields of clinical microbiology, infectious diseases and infection control.

World Health Organization (WHO)
Placement In 2001 in Geneva, Switzerland to undertake project related to the use of antibiotics in food animals as growth promoters and any potential relationship to nutrition in the developing world.
Since 2000 has been part of most WHO expert meetings dealing with the issue of antibiotic resistant bacteria and their transmission from food animals (including as Chair).
In 2009 appointed to WHO Advisory Group on Integrated Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (AGISAR). Reappointed in 2014 until 2019.

Antibiotic resistance and the development of resistance through the use of antibiotics both in food animals and people, infection control in hospitals, Teaching, Research.
