Diabetes education
The diabetes education centre is situated within the Department of Endocrinology on level 2 of the tower block (building 1). The diabetes education centre is open 8:30 am -5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (public holidays excepted).
A multidisciplinary team from the ACT diabetes Services, ACT Health, staffs the diabetes education centre. The team consists of diabetes educators, a dietitian and a podiatrist who are all experienced in the care and treatment of people with diabetes. Appointments for consultations with other allied health professionals such as Social Work or Psychology can also be arranged.
The diabetes education centre offers a comprehensive and specialised diabetes service. Your Diabetes Specialist, General Practitioner or health care professional can refer you to us and they will be kept informed about your progress. You can also make your own appointment.

Outpatient clinics
Medical outpatient clinics for people with endocrine disorders are held in the outpatient department on level 2 at The Canberra Hospital. For appointments phone 02 6244 2415. A referral from your general practitioner is necessary.
Inpatient services
The Department manages inpatients in The Canberra Hospital and provides a consultation service for patients in The Canberra Hospital and Calvary Hospital. A 24-hour on-call medical and education service is provided.
Endocrine testing
Dynamic endocrine testing and oral glucose tolerance testing for pregnant and postnatal women is performed in the Endocrinology Department. Specialised procedures performed in the Department include Testosterone implant insertion and infusions for Pagets disease and other bone disorders. A wide range of other endocrine dynamic tests is also available including synacthen tests, insulin tolerance tests and water deprivation tests. Some complex tests are performed as an inpatient and these can be arranged by contacting an Endocrinologist or the Endocrine Registered Nurse.

Endocrinology education / patient support groups
A number of patient support groups for people with endocrine disorders are active in Canberra, including Addisons disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, osteoporosis, pituitary disorders and Turner syndrome. Insulin pumps
The department has an active insulin pump program for adults and children. A dedicated diabetes educator deals with all aspects of pump management.
