The Department of Neonatology provides an environment that contributes positively to the personal development of all staff. We co-ordinate a range of programs on topics of interest to neonatal health professionals working within the Centre.



Inservice education

Foundation Nursing Course

In 2012, The Centre for Newborn Care will commence a Foundation Nursing Course. The course is aimed at transitioning new university graduates wishing to work in the NICU.

Four positions will be available and new Registered Nurses will be supported by the Clinical Support Nurse and Clinical Development Nurses.



Clinical Development Nurses will support staff with new skill acquisition

Graduate Certificate in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing

The Centre for Newborn Care offers a Post Graduate Certificate in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing via the Australian Catholic University, Canberra.

The course runs annually and scholarships are available. ACT Health offers many courses through the staff development unit that are accessible via the training management system, Capabiliti. The Centre for Newborn Care provides clinical development nurses to assist with orientation and skill development.
