Canberra Hospital has two types of accommodation on campus. The Medihotel and Residences.

Residences at Canberra Hospital

Residences at Canberra Hospital offers short term accommodation for

  • Patients
  • Carers
  • Staff relocating from interstate/overseas to work at the hospital(max 6 weeks stay)
  • Students attending the hospital for defined study block periods

MEDIHOTEL at Canberra Hospital

The Medihotel is a FREE service that offers accommodation to eligible consumers who do not require hospital admission before, during or after their treatment.

The hotel is open 24 hours and staffed by nurses.

Who can use the Medihotel?

Eligible consumers must meet the following crtieria:

  • The consumer needs accommodation in close proximity to the hospital for acute care.
  • The consumer is over 18 years of age.
  • The consumer is capable of self-caring and independent with activities of:
  • daily living
  • alert, oriented and accountable
  • medically stable
  • able to manage their own medications
  • ambulant either with or without aids
  • able to communicate effectively by telephone
  • understand their treatment requirements in the short term and can manage these independently

Linen

Clean linen will be provided for your arrival and will not be changed daily. If you do require clean linen or towels, please speak to a staff member.

Meals

No meals are provided to the Medihotel. Food is

  • The Staff Cafeteria on level 3 of building 2. Hours are Mon to Sun, Breakfast 7am to 10am, Lunch 11am to 2pm and Dinner 4:30pm to 7pm.
  • Cafe Hoz is also located in the main foyer, 8.30am to 7.30 pm 7 days a week.
  • Cafe Zouki is located on level 2 of the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, 8am to 7.30pm daily.
  • The Moira Lye Cafe located in the foyer of the Canberra Region Cancer Centre is open from 7am til 5pm Monday to Friday.
  • A number of restaurants are located in the Garran and Woden area, including at the nearby Westfield shopping centre.
    Alcohol is not permitted in the Medihotel.

Parking

Parking is available free of charge 24/7 in the top 3 levels of the multi storey carpark.

Checking In

To facilitate cleaning and the preparation of Medihotel rooms, check in time will be after 2:00pm (unless a clean vacant room is available).

Checking Out

The maximum length of stay allowed is five nights. Consumers will be required to checkout by 10:00am.

If consumers are waiting to be picked up, they are welcome to utilise the Medihotel communal lounge area and the tea/coffee facilities during their wait.

Staff

The 8 bed Medihotel is staffed to provide twenty four hour, seven day per week nursing cover to consumers.

Carer/Family Accommodation

A Carer or family member may stay at the medihotel, if a double room is available and they are accompanying an eligible medihotel consumer.

The Hospital campus has, subject to availability, facilities to accommodate relatives of consumers in the Residences at a nominal charge. To make a booking please call Residences on (02) 6244 2358 or (02) 6244 2359 between 8 am and 5 pm daily.

What should you bring?

You will need:

  • Ordinary day clothing
  • Sleepwear for night time
  • All toiletries (such as soaps, toothbrush, toothpaste, tissues etc)
  • All current medications to self administer.

You are responsible for your own belongings. As for your hospital stay, all valuables should be left at home and only bring a small amount of money to purchase meals and incidentals.

Two ATMs are located in the main hospital foyer and EFTPOS facilities are available at Cafe Hoz and Zouki.
