The Driver Assessment and Rehabilitation Service (DARS) provide advice, assessment, rehabilitation and training for people wishing to drive after an injury or illness, or who have a disability.
DARS is for residents of the ACT and the surrounding region who are assessed as medically fit to drive, but for whom there is a query about driving capacity.
Service access
It is advisable that you discuss your driving with your General Practitioner (GP) or specialist if you have a condition that could impact on your driving. You must be identified as medically fit to undertake an assessment before you can be seen by DARS.
Referrals can be made by completing a DARS referral form and returning it by fax or post. Referral forms can be sent out if you call DARS on (02) 6244 2937 for more information.
Operation hours
This service is available weekdays Monday Friday 9am 5pm, (excluding public holidays).

Cost
For public patients, these fees apply for assessments or lessons for which a driving instructor:
Initial on-road assessment: $672.00
Inclusive of GST (for people with an ACT licence, this initial assessment fee is paid for by ACT Road Transport Authority).
Subsequent on-road reassessments: $292.00
Subsequent appointments are only booked if required. Inclusive of GST.
Lessons: $115.00
Inclusive of GST.
Note: Different assessment charges apply for compensable patients.
