Breastfeeding Facts
- Breast milk is both a form of fluid and food. Exclusive breastfeeding satisfies a baby's thirst and hunger.
- Breastfeeding is about supply and demand. The more a baby breastfeeds the more milk is produced to meet the baby's needs.
- Babies feeding and sleeping patterns vary. Soon after birth and throughout the first few weeks it is normal for babies to feed frequently - up to 10 times in a 24-hour period. After a while the length of time in between feeds naturally extends and a more routine pattern develops. At this point, breastfeeding 6-8 times in a 24-hour period is more common.
Breastfeeding - good for baby, good for mum
