History

The original Canberra Hospital commenced operations in Balmain Crescent, Acton in May 1914, with only eight beds. The interim weatherboard building with a corrugated iron roof could accommodate only 28 patients, with a small flat out the back for the two nurses.

Woden Valley Hospital and Royal Canberra Hospital were amalgamated in 1991 when the Woden hospital campus underwent major redevelopment. This combined facility was renamed Canberra Hospital in 1996.

Today, a comprehensive range of services is delivered from the Canberra Hospital campus, including acute inpatient and day services, outpatient services and pathology services.
