What to bring to hospital

If you are coming to the Hospital for longer than a day, you will need to bring the following:

Personal items

  • tissues
  • hair brush or comb
  • toothpaste and toothbrush
  • soap
  • loose-fitting night wear
  • slippers, dressing gown
  • shaving kit for men (preferably electric)
  • night shirt (for men having prostate surgery)
  • your teddy bear or such item for comfort

Relevant medical information

  • any medications you are taking, in their original containers
  • any relevant x-rays
  • any documents or letters that your doctor has given you
  • your Medicare card
  • your health care card, if you have one
  • your health insurance details, if you have cover
  • your completed medical admission forms (that would have been sent to you with the admission letter)

What not to bring with you

Personal valuables, other than a small amount of money, should not be brought into the Hospital. If you have valuables with you such as jewellery, we suggest that you arrange with friends or relatives to hold these for safekeeping. If this is not possible, you should talk to the ward staff and ask for them to be deposited in the Hospital safe. The safe is only accessible for withdrawals of money/valuables between 8am-4pm (Monday to Friday only) by prior arrangement.

Electronic equipment

The Hospital discourages the use of personal electrical equipment such as televisions and radios. The Hospital accepts no responsibility for damage or loss of personal electronic equipment.
