Rehabilitation Independent Living Unit (RILU)
RILU provides inpatient rehabilitation in a home like environment. The 16 bed unit includes wheelchair accessible kitchen, gym, laundry, bathrooms and dining areas.
RILU has a multidisciplinary team including medical staff, nursing staff and allied health staff (occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, speech pathology and social work).
People are admitted to the unit under the care of a Rehabilitation Physician as either an inpatient or day patient. Admission is based on a person meeting certain clinical criteria and pre-admission assessment. These include:
- Age 18 years and older
- Medical stability
- Level of nursing care required
- Potential to improve with rehabilitation
- Agreed discharge plan
- Referrals are assessed by a rehabilitation physician and discussed in an intake meeting
Referrals and bookings
Referrals are accepted from inpatient services, general practitioners and other specialists to the rehabilitation medicine registrar or rehabilitation physician through the Canberra Hospital switchboard.
