University of Canberra Hospital

Welcome to the University of Canberra Hospital.

Our commitment to providing high-quality and person-centred care ensures your stay is as comfortable as possible.

The University of Canberra Hospital (UCH) is a dedicated and purpose-built rehabilitation facility. We provide care and support for people over the age of 18 who are experiencing mental illness or recovering from surgery, illness or injury. You must have a referral to attend UCH.

Our rehabilitation centre is the largest in the ACT and surrounding region, with 140 inpatient beds, 75-day places and additional outpatient services.

As we are a rehabilitation facility, we don’t have an Emergency Department and do not perform surgical operations.

Please call 000 or go directly to the Emergency Department at the Canberra Hospital or Calvary Public Hospital if you need emergency care.

The Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT) provides a 24-hour, seven day a week service used for assessment and treatment of mentally ill people in crisis situations

Ambulance services

If you go to the University of Canberra Hospital because you need emergency attention and we need to call an ambulance, you will be required to pay for the ambulance service. ACT legislation places a legal obligation on the person receiving the ambulance service to pay the account even if they didn’t ask for an ambulance. There will be a cost if the ambulance attends even if the ambulance does not transport you to hospital.

Please see the ACT Emergency Services Agency for more information on costs and eligibility for free ambulance services.

Visiting hours

Our visiting hours are from 6am to 9pm daily.

Please ensure visitors respect your need to attend therapies and rest periods during the day. Visiting may be restricted by clinical staff if your condition demands it.
