Our Maternal, Child and Family Health service supports parents/carers with information and advice about breastfeeding.
About this service
We offer a range of options for breastfeeding support.
These include:
- face to face booked appointments
- an Early Parenting Support phone line.
Who we care for
We care for children up to the age of 5 years, as well as support, education and information on all aspects of breastfeeding.
Our services are free to Medicare and Asylum Seeker card holders
How to access this service
To book an appointment for our breastfeeding support clinics, call the Early Parenting Support phone line to discuss your breastfeeding support needs.
You can also watch an Understanding your baby (0 to 3 months) information session, which covers breastfeeding and other topics.
What to expect
You will receive an SMS reminder with your appointment details. There is also space in your child’s personal health record (Blue Book) to record details of upcoming appointments.
What to bring to your appointment
- List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
- Your child’s personal health record (Blue Book)

Resources
There are many support services available over the phone to give you information and advice about breastfeeding.
Australian Breastfeeding Association
The Australian Breastfeeding Association runs the National Breastfeeding Helpline 1800 mum to mum (1800 686 268) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This service is staffed by trained volunteer counsellors who answer calls on a roster system in their own home.
Pregnancy, Birth and Baby (operated by HealthDirect Australia)
Supporting parents on the journey from pregnancy to preschool.
Speak to a Maternal and Child Health Nurse for personal advice and guidance on pregnancy, birth, being a parent and raising a child.
Available 7am to midnight, 7 days a week (including public holidays)
Mothersafe
For support and information with medications while breastfeeding call 1800 647 848.
