The Chief Allied Health Office has initiated and led several innovative workforce reforms including extended scope projects over the last ten years.

Allied Health Review

The Allied Health Review, a key recommendation of the Nous report, officially commenced with an initial series of site visits to the ACT by the two consultants in February 2014.

A range of one on one consultations, focus groups and workshops were conducted over the subsequent four months, leading to the final report in September 2014.

Final Report and Recommendations

The consultants' report has now been released within ACT Health only and ACT Health staff can access the report via the ACT Health intranet.  Please contact the Project Officer if you have any difficulty accessing these documents.

A four week consultation period commenced on Wednesday 9th September 2014 and finished Tuesday 7th October 2014. Interested ACT Health staff were invited to provide written feedback on implementation of the recommendations. The feedback is currently being collated and themed by the Allied Health Review Project Officer.

Review of the HP3 Personal Upgrade Scheme

The Review of the HP3 Upgrade Scheme for the Recognition of Excellence is nearing completion. An electronic survey was designed to gather both quantitative and qualitative data on workforce perceptions of the scheme and its future -the survey data is currently being analysed along with focus group feedback. The feedback will be synthesised into a report including recommendations for the Scheme's future beyond 2015.

The final report is due early 2015.

Advanced Allied Health Assistant Project

The Advanced Allied Health Assistant project was undertaken from February–July 2013.

The project consisted of a literature review, consultation with other states, consultation with allied health assistants and their managers across ACT Health, Calvary Healthcare and Therapy ACT, consultation with allied health assistant students as well as consumers.

The project was overseen by an Executive Management Group with input from a Project Reference Group.

The aims of the project were as follows:

  • To scope the role of the Advanced Allied Health Assistant and its potential to contribute to the delivery of quality allied health care; and to outline an educational pathway that provides skills escalation and career development to a Diploma or equivalent level qualification
  • To outline an educational pathway that provides skills escalation and career development to a Diploma or equivalent level qualification

The final project report has been endorsed and an implementation plan has also been endorsed.

The implementation plan will be progressively rolled out over the coming two years.
