Invasive Pneumococcal Disease is caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Types of 'invasive' pneumococcal disease (IPD) include:
- meningitis (infection of the membranes around the brain)
- pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and;
- bacteraemia (infection of the blood)
