Enterococci are part of the normal flora of the lower gastrointestinal tract and the female genitourinary tracts. Most enterococcal infections are attributed to the patient’s endogenous (own, produced within) flora.
They are frequent causes of urinary tract infections, intra abdominal infections, bacteraemia and endocarditis.
