This current report covers the two-year period from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2010 and is aligned with key local and national health priority areas.

About this report
The Chief Health Officer reports biennially on the health of the ACT population to the Minister for Health on specific health related topics.
Data presented in this report have been analysed from a range of sources including:
- mortality and hospital records;
- notifiable disease data, screening program and immunisation registers;
- survey data; and
- published statistical reports and journal articles.
Where specific information for the reporting period is not available or not considered reliable, the most recent and reliable information available has been presented.
Comparison of population health data should be interpreted with caution in relation to the ACT.
This is due to the small population base and sometimes small numbers of cases, which in turn can cause rates to fluctuate considerably from year to year.
The reliability of survey estimates is also a concern for the ACT, again largely due to our small population.
The statistical methodology section in the appendices outlines how results were compared for significance and the methods for assessing reliability of data from different sources.
