Between 2005 and 2017, the proportion of secondary students surveyed who meet the National Physical Activity guideline has remained relatively stable. In 2017, 15.5% of secondary students surveyed reported doing vigorous or moderate physical activity for at least one hour every day. Males (20.8% ) were significantly more likely to report doing at least one hour of vigorous or moderate physical activity every day than females (10.1%) in 2017.
Meeting the physical activity guideline for children aged 5-17 years is based on the National Physical Activity guideline of accumulating 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day. Please note that this indicator was updated in 2022 and replaces all previous versions.
For the purpose of reporting the Australian Secondary Students' Alcohol and Drug survey data on HealthStats, if the 95% confidence intervals of the estimates do not overlap, they are considered to be significantly different.
