The ACT has many different types of bodies of water that support various recreational activities. This includes Lake Burley Griffin, Lake Ginninderra and Lake Tuggeranong. These are the only lakes in the ACT that allow recreational activities.

The ACT Guidelines for Recreational Water Quality provides a framework for the management of recreational water sites within the ACT. It addresses risks such as blue-green algae and microbial pathogens.
