ASSAD - Alcohol use, ever, by sex

The prevalence of alcohol use in secondary students in the ACT has decreased steadily over time. In 2017, 65.5% of secondary students surveyed reported ever consuming at least a few sips of an alcoholic drink in their lifetime, which is significantly lower (p<0.0001) than the proportion reported in 1996 (89.7%). Alcohol use becomes more common with increasing age (p for trend <0.0001), with 90.7% of 17 year-olds having ever consumed alcohol in their lifetime compared to 67.2% of 12 year-olds. In 2017, males (67.4%) were no more likely than females (62.9%) to have ever consumed alcohol in their lifetime (p=0.481).
