Students who drank alcohol in the preceding week were classified as ‘current drinkers’. In 2017, one in 10 (11.6%) of secondary students surveyed reported alcohol consumption in the last seven days. The proportion of current drinkers increased with age (p for trend <0.0001) and peaked among 17-year-olds at 36.4% for males and 34.0% for females.
