Fruit consumption (2 serves or more a day) – children

The 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines recommends adults eat:

  • at least two serves of fruit, and
  • five serves of vegetables (women) or five to six serves of vegetables (for men depending on their age).

The 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines recommends adolescents and children eat between 1-2 serves of fruit and between 2.5-5.5 serves of vegetables, depending on their age and sex.

  • Among people aged 5–17 years in 2015–2016, 66.8% of boys and 74.1% of girls consumed the recommended two serves of fruit each day. However, less than 1 in 10 boys and girls consumed the recommended five serves of vegetables daily (6.8% and 8.2%, respectively).
