ACT Health provides helpful information on multicultural communities in the ACT for health professionals. This information includes age, gender profiles, common health conditions and tips for culturally appropriate information.

You can also use the Department of Social Services National Calendar of Cultural and Religious Dates to ensure you are aware of key cultural and religious events, festivals and national days.

Community profiles

Multicultural communities in the ACT consists of diverse individuals who may have different norms, beliefs and lifestyles.

ACT Health have developed various community profiles using 2016 Census data and consultation with community members.

It’s important to remember the information given in these profiles may not apply to all members within a community. You should use the information as a guidance only.

Interpreters

Some patients may need the help of an interpreter. The use of an interpreter is required by ACT Government policy and legislation.

Please use the ACT Health Language Identification Chart to identify which language is needed.

You may also provide patients with an ACT Health Interpreter Card.

Multicultural ACT

The 2016 Census offers useful information about culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in the ACT, including countries of birth, languages spoken at home, English proficiency, ancestry and religion.
