Around the world, nurses and midwives are recognised through the International Nurses Day and the International Day of the Midwife.

The International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on 12 May.

The International Day of the Midwife is celebrated annually on 5 May.

The ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards coincide with these international celebrations to recognise the exemplary professional contributions made by nurses and midwives across our region.

ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards 2019

The ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards celebrate the outstanding professional contributions made to the health and wellbeing of the community. The awards are open to enrolled nurses, registered nurses and registered midwives from public and private health facilities, and community and primary healthcare sectors in the ACT.

Nominations for the ACT Nurses and Midwives 2019 Excellence Awards open on Monday 14 January 2019 and close on Friday 1 March 2019.

Awards are given in each of the following excellence categories:

  • Excellence in Clinical Practice
  • Excellence in Educational Practice
  • Excellence in Leadership Practice
  • Excellence in Management Practice
  • Excellence in Quality Improvement or Research Practice

The ACT Nurse of the Year, ACT Midwife of the Year and ACT Team of the Year will be awarded from the highest ranking excellence nominations.

The awards are open to enrolled nurses, registered nurses and registered midwives in the ACT. This includes nurses and midwives in private and public facilities, and community and primary healthcare sectors.

How to nominate

Nominations for the ACT Nurses and Midwives 2019 Excellence Awards open on Monday 14 January 2019 and close Friday 1 March 2019.

Nominations for the 2019 Excellence Awards are welcomed from professional colleagues or through self nomination.

Individual and team nominations will be accepted for the following categories:

  • Excellence in Clinical Practice
  • Excellence in Educational Practice
  • Excellence in Quality Improvement or Research Practice

Only individual nominations will be accepted for the following categories:

  • Excellence in Leadership Practice
  • Excellence in Management Practice

The 2019 Nomination Guidelines [pdf] provide information on the award categories and online nomination process.

Nominations can only be lodged online.

To complete an online nomination:

Save the declarations in .pdf using the format FAMILY NAME_DDMMYY_Name of Document (example: Jones_070119_Supervisor Declaration).

Once your online nomination is submitted you will not be able to amend or add attachments.

Templates with the selection criteria for each award category can be saved for copying to the online nomination form.
