Please consider if your situation is a genuine emergency before coming to the Emergency Department (ED).
The ED has several different treatment areas that include:
- Resuscitation – where the most seriously ill patients are treated
- Acute – where patients with severe or potentially severe conditions are treated
- Cubicles – where patients with less acute problems are treated
- Paediatrics – where small children are treated
Our priority is to always provide treatment to people who are seriously ill, in pain or are suffering.
Please call 000 in an emergency.
You can also call Canberra Hospital on 02 5124 0000, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
University of Canberra Hospital does not have an emergency department.
If you need emergency care call 000 or go directly to your nearest emergency department at Calvary Public Hospital in Bruce or Canberra Hospital in Garran.
After hours alternatives
Please see the information below for assistance with non-emergency conditions after hours.
If you need medical help for a condition that is not immediately life threatening, there are a range of services that don’t involve a trip to the emergency department. Many of these are free and available after hours. Knowing where to go can save you time and keep the emergency free for those who need it.
