Acute Haemodialysis

The Acute Haemodialysis Unit is a 10 station facility that provides haemodialysis for 10 inpatients.

Aged Care

The Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Care (RACC) Division provides various aged care services for people with acute, post-acute and long-term illnesses.

Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology provides a range of diagnostic and treatment facilities for acute and chronic cardiac conditions, including cardiac intervention and non-invasive investigation.

We also offer an outpatient service from Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 5pm.

You need a referral for this service. Please send all referrals to us directly.

Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology

Clinical pharmacology and toxicology provides care for inpatients and outpatients with overdose, poisoning and adverse drug reaction problems. We also provide a consultative service to other areas of the hospital about related matters.

Endocrinology and Diabetes

The Endocrinology and Diabetes Department provides treatment and management to inpatients and outpatients with general endocrinology conditions, and diabetes.

Exercise Physiology

The Exercise Physiology Department offers lifestyle and behavioural programs for people who live with chronic conditions.

You need a referral from your GP or specialist for this service. Please send all referrals to the Community Health Intake on 02 5124 9977 or fax to 02 5124 2611.

Eligibility for this service includes those who have:

  • pre and post surgery – orthopaedic or general
  • chronic pain
  • diabetes
  • cardiovascular disease
  • arthritis
  • pulmonary disease
  • musculoskeletal pathology
  • osteoporosis
  • cancer
  • mental health conditions
  • recent neurological conditions

Gastroenterology and Hepatology

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology unit provides services for people with digestive diseases.

Neurology

The Neurology Department deals with the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of diseases of the nervous system, including stroke, epilepsy, headache, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.

We also provide general and specialist outpatient clinics, as well as EEG and EMG.

Psychology

The Psychology Department provides services to inpatients and some outpatient groups from specialist clinics, including diabetes, neurology, cardiology, child epilepsy and pain management.

Our clinical psychologists and neuro-psychologists assess, diagnose and treat patients suffering from psychological impairments that may be associated with health problems.

You need a referral for this service. This can be made through your treating doctor from any hospital department or clinic.

We are located on Level 10, Building 1 of the Canberra Hospital. Our business hours are from Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 5pm.

Rehabilitation

The Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Care (RACC) Division provides various rehabilitation services for people with acute, post-acute and long-term illnesses.

Renal

The Renal Service provides comprehensive clinical care for patients with kidney disease, including dialysis and post transplant care.

Our inpatient and outpatient services include haemodialysis, home therapies, transplant and dialysis education.

Rheumatology

The Rheumatology Unit supports rheumatology patients within the ACT and surrounding regional areas.

We also offer paediatric services and treatment for children with rheumatology conditions.
