Diabetes Nutrition Service

The ACT Health Diabetes Nutrition Service provides group and individual appointments for people with diabetes, gestational diabetes, impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance.

Our Dietitians work in a multidisciplinary team alongside diabetes educators, podiatrists, social workers and endocrinologists.

We are located at:

  • The Canberra Hospital
  • Centenary Hospital for Women and Children
  • Winnungah Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service
  • Tuggeranong, Belconnen and Gungahlin Community Health Centres
Inpatient Nutrition Care Services

We provide individual nutrition care for patients who are admitted to The Canberra Hospital or Centenary Hospital for Women and Children and require diabetes support.

Outpatient clinics

Most of our diabetes services occur in outpatient clinics.

Paediatric services are run from the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. An outreach service is also available at the Gungahlin Health Centre.

Adult services are run from the Canberra Hospital and Tuggeranong, Belconnen and Gungahlin Health Centres.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have access to all diabetes services but have the additional option to access diabetes services at Winnungah Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service.

Group Education

We offer group education services as an initial point of contact for different types of diabetes.

Groups available include:

  • Gestational diabetes
  • Pre-diabetes
  • Step Two – introduction to Type 2 diabetes
  • Staying well with diabetes

We also offer groups for Type 1 diabetes including:

  • Carbohydrate counting
  • Choosing insulin pumps
  • Pre insulin pump education
  • Advanced insulin pump management
