Our rehabilitation Speech Pathology team provides assessment and treatment to people experiencing speech and/or swallowing difficulties following a neurological event or as the result of a deteriorating condition.
About this service
We offer assessment and treatment programs to support you to achieve your goals if you are experiencing difficulties with talking, understanding, reading, writing or swallowing following:
- a neurological event, such as a stroke, or
- as a result of a degenerative condition.
Who we care for
Our services are available for people who:
- are at least 18 years old
- live in the ACT (there are some exceptions for people who live in some areas of NSW where there is no equivalent service or specialized expertise)
- are experiencing a change in speech or swallowing as a result of a neurological event or condition
- are accessing an alternate service provider in the private sector and require a Videofluroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS). In this case, we will conduct the VFSS and report the findings to the managing clinician for continuing care.
How to access this service
You need a referral from your GP or medical practitioner to access this service.

What to expect
We will send you a letter of acknowledgement and place you on a waiting list once we receive your referral.
We will call you when there is an appointment available.
At the appointment you will be seen by a Speech Pathologist who will provide assessment and advice and work with you to develop a treatment plan.
What to bring to your appointment
- Any letters or correspondence from your GP
- Medicines you need to take while you are here
- List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins.
