Asthma is a condition of the lungs that narrows the airways and makes it difficult to breathe. It’s a common health problem that affects up to 1 in 10 children.
Your GP can diagnose and refer you to the Asthma Nurse Educator Service.
Our registered nurses work closely with your GP, as well as paediatricians, specialists, pharmacists, hospital staff and the ACT Asthma Association to support you and your child with their condition.
Asthma Nurse Educators can help you increase your understanding of asthma and its management with information on:
- trigger factors
- devices used to deliver medications
- combining sport with asthma
- emergency management
- Asthma Action Plans
To book an appointment or make a referral, please see the Community Health Centres. You can self-refer for this service. Please ensure you bring any medication or devices you use to your appointment, as well as your Asthma Action Plan, if you have one.
