The Pre-Admission Clinic provides pre-operative health assessments for patients undergoing surgery.
Our clinic is run by Nursing and Medical staff who complete a number of consultations to ensure you are ready for surgery. These consultations are carried out in collaboration with the surgical and anaesthetic team and review your condition, including medical history, food and fluid intake before surgery and your post-operative arrangements.
You may have your consultation over the phone or face-to-face. The pre-admission clerk provides you with a letter and phone call to discuss the details of your visit.
If you have a face-to-face consultation, you need to present to The Canberra Hospital via the Emergency Department entrance. Please allow adequate time for parking to ensure you arrive on time.
Please bring any relevant medical imaging, including x-rays, all medications and any specialist letters or test results that may be relevant to your admission.
You may also require additional testing such as pathology or medical imaging. Please allow 2 to 4 hours for your consultation.
If you are unable to make your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible. Not attending your appointment may impact your surgery booking.
