In a life threatening emergency dial Triple Zero (000)

breadcrumbs--red-border

We are a secondary vision screening service for children from birth to 6 years. We see children who may have vision issues raised by their GP or following an initial Maternal and Child Health (MACH) screen or Kindergarten Health Check.

About this service

Our services include vision assessment, eye movement assessment and binocular vision tests.

Please remember to bring your child’s Blue Book to your appointment, as well as their glasses and referral letter.

Who we care for

We care for children aged 0-6 who have:

  • a vision of 6/9 or less in one or both eyes
  • an obvious or latent squint
  • uneven eye movements and
  • been referred by their GP or MACH nurse.

How to access this service

You need a referral from your GP or other health professional, such as a MACH nurse, to access this service.

Your referring health professional may send the referral directly to us. If they do that, we will call you to book your appointment.

Otherwise, you can call Central Health Intake on (02) 5124 9977, with the referral form handy, to book an appointment.

What to expect

The appointment will take approximately 20 minutes. We will let you know if there is any follow up needed.

We do not prescribe glasses. You will need to see a private optometrist for this.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Medicare card
  • Your child’s personal health record (Blue Book)
  • Your child’s glasses
