The ACT Newborn Hearing Screening Program identifies babies that are born with significant hearing loss and introduces them to appropriate services as soon as possible.
Our trained screeners conduct the screening as soon as possible after your baby’s birth. They place sensors on your baby’s head to record their response to different sounds. The screen usually takes 10 to 20 minutes to complete and you are welcome to stay with your baby during this time.
Results are available as soon as the screen is complete and are recorded in your baby’s Blue Book. Sometimes a repeat screening is required, which is carried out later.
