Community standards

Community standards

Creating supportive environments and building healthy public policy are key to keeping people healthy, well and free from alcohol harm.

That’s why as a community we have agreed to shared standards around the sale, supply and promotion of alcohol in the ACT.

These standards include measures relating to the hours that alcohol venues can trade, the way that alcohol is promoted and the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) practices.

Responsible service of alcohol exists to minimise the harm from alcohol.

RSA practices include:

  • Not serving alcohol to anyone under the age of 18
  • Recognising signs of impending intoxication and not serving alcohol to people displaying these signs
  • Not serving anyone already intoxicated
  • Understanding the principles of ‘standard drinks’ and legal blood alcohol levels for driving.

Community standards relating to the sale, supply and promotion of alcohol are outlined in the ACT Liquor Act and regulation.
