An ACT Government Website

The SYNERGY Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre is a joint venture from ACT Health and the University of Canberra supporting the development of a research culture in ACT public health services.

SYNERGY works with Canberra nurses and midwives to:

  • encourage engagement and collaboration
  • achieve regular outputs in key focus areas
  • enhance collaboration with key stakeholders
  • establish international links with other centres
  • develop a strong and successful cohort of higher degree research students.

Vision

To become a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence in research. To contribute to the quality, articulation and recognition of the nursing and midwifery professions and the translation of research findings into practice, education and policy.

Key areas of research focus

SYNERGY prioritises the following five areas of health research:

  • mental health nursing and psychosocial wellbeing
  • midwifery-centred care
  • health workforce, education and quality outcomes
  • gerontological nursing and care of the older person
  • cancer and oncology.

These areas are based on research outcomes, research income and higher degree student enrolments and capacity. They are also based on the status and reputations of the researchers working in those areas.
